Bob has been in the aviation industry with a broad spectrum of products for over 33 years. His service with the Company extends over 29 years. Bob continues to maintain his A&P and IA and represents a long history with the Product Support, stemming 18 years. This session will provide technical updates on service bulletins, fleet issues, upgrades and programs in process on the 208/Caravan Series, and Textron Product support.

Tech start-up investor Steve Baxter is a proud Queenslander, born in the remote town of Cloncurry and raised in Emerald in the State’s central highlands. He left school at 15 and joined the Army, enlisting in its apprenticeship program. There, he became a technician working in the field of electronics, telecoms and guided weapon systems.

In 1994, at the age of 23, Steve put his life savings of $11,000 on the line to launch his first start-up, the pioneering internet service provider SE Net, from the spare room of his Adelaide home. Servicing more than 35,000 customers, SE Net was eventually acquired by Ozemail/UUNet under the stewardship of its founding Director and now Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.

In 2001, Steve teamed with a schoolmate to launch his second start-up, PIPE Networks, a provider of wholesale telecoms infrastructure that was listed on the ASX in 2005. Eight years later they sold it to the TPG Group for $373 million.

Steve spent a year working with Google in California in 2008, leading a project to deliver high-speed telecommunications systems across North America.

Since 2010 he has become a major early stage investor in startups leading to the founding of Brisbane tech startup co-working space River City Labs, foundered and underwrote the Startup Catalyst and River Pitch programs; he has been on the listed boards of Vocus Telecoms, Indoor Skydive Australia Group and OtherLevels as well as being on the board of Commercialisation Australia.

He has been heavily involved in the early days or founding of numerous industry groups and forums such as the South Australian Internet Association, South Australian Internet Exchange, Australian Domain Name Authority, AuDA, INTIAA, IIA, AusBone and AusNOG.
He has been a Shark on Channel 10's Shark Tank Australia for the past three seasons.

In 2006 Steve received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Northern Region. In 2016, Steve received the Pearcey Medal for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of distinguished lifetime achievement and contribution to the development and growth of the Information and Communications Technology Industry.

Steve is married and the proud father of 4-year-old daughter as well as twin baby girls and is a keen private pilot and recreational fisherman.

Kate has a Bachelor of International Finance and Executive Masters of Business Administration and has been working within the aviation industry for over 20 years. She has been with Textron for just shy of 3 years and specialises in sales for the Caravan and King Air offerings. She comes with a background that has included working with GippsAero and another 10+ years within aviation security sector focusing on Airport screening within Asia Pacific. She has deep exposure to our territory being Australian born in Phillip Island and has professional and personal insights after traveling throughout some 60 countries with focus and passion on Australia Pacific.

Patrick Coleman is Garmin’s Sales and Marketing Manager for Australia and New Zealand. Based in Garmin’s Sydney office, he oversees the aviation business segment in the AU/NZ territory. He has worked for Garmin for 8 years, in various aviation product support technical and sales/marketing roles. Prior to joining Garmin, he graduated from Southern Illinois University where he earned a B.S. in Aviation Management. While in school, he also completed his flight training in various Cessna aircraft and has received an FAA Commercial pilot’s license with multi-engine and instrument ratings.

During the time at HP have held the position of Chief Engineer for 14 years and MRO Manager for 8 years. Currently in the position of Sales Director for MRO Services Australia.Over the years have been involved in the maintenance of General Aviation, Commercial and business aircraft types.

2017 RAAA Convention 2017 RAAA Convention

The Convention, now in its 18th year, is highly regarded as a premier annual aviation event and attracts key industry leaders, regional operators, technical experts, local and overseas manufacturers and suppliers. Importantly, it is of tremendous benefit to the industry as a whole, providing the platform for members to come together and hear from and speak with industry operators, regulators, manufacturers and industry related professionals to collectively plan for the future. The Convention attracts over 300 delegates from all over Australia and the world.

The 2017 RAAA tradeshow takes place following the Cessna Caravan operators conference on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th October.
